Leaving home at the age of 13 with only a handful of money borrowed from his father, Banan ventured to Mumbai where he began washing utensils at a restaurant for a meager salary. This humble beginning laid the foundation for his future success.

In 1974, Banan’s journey brought him to Delhi where he took over the management of a canteen. Determined to carve his path, he established his restaurant, Sagar, in 1986. The restaurant’s delectable South Indian cuisine quickly gained popularity, leading to the establishment of “Sagar-Ratna” and further expansion into the culinary landscape.

Despite facing challenges, Sagar Ratna’s reputation for quality and flavor continued to attract patrons, propelling Banan’s vision to greater heights. Today, Sagar Ratna boasts international outlets in countries like Canada, Singapore, and Bangkok, with an annual turnover exceeding Rs 300 crore.

In addition to Sagar Ratna, Banan diversified his ventures by founding the Swagat restaurant chain in 2001, further expanding his culinary empire. With nearly 100 restaurants worldwide, Banan has earned the title of “Dosa King of the North,” symbolizing his dominance in the culinary realm.
