Decatur artist and small business owner speaks out as Voice of the Voter

Bringing People Together: A Small Business Owner’s Perspective in Decatur

DECATUR, Ga. — In the bustling city of Decatur, one small business owner is proving that bringing people together is not just a job, but a passion. Daphne Dail, co-owner of MudFire Studios & Gallery, has been at the helm of this community space for over a decade, creating a hub for clay enthusiasts to connect and create.

“Mudfire is, at its very core, a community space for folks who are pursuing an education in clay,” Dail explained. “Everybody can come in and kind of interact with the work and hopefully fall in love with a piece that they can take home.”

With around 250 members and 20 staff members, MudFire Studios & Gallery serves as a place where strangers become lifelong friends through their shared love of art and creativity. Dail emphasized the importance of human connection in today’s digital age, where face-to-face conversations are often replaced by online interactions.

Beyond her role as a small business owner, Dail is also an advocate for important social issues. Reproductive healthcare and LGBTQ+ rights are two causes close to her heart, as she believes in the fundamental right of individuals to access healthcare and live authentically without fear of discrimination.

As the 2024 election season approaches, Dail expressed her concerns about the divisive nature of politics and the need for genuine connection and understanding among people. Despite these challenges, she remains hopeful for the future, especially with the potential of the next generation to use modern communication tools to bridge gaps and foster meaningful conversations.

Through her work at MudFire Studios & Gallery and her advocacy for social issues, Daphne Dail is not just a small business owner – she is a community builder, a voice for change, and a beacon of hope for a more connected and compassionate society. Join us on Sundays at 11 a.m. on WXIA for more stories like Dail’s in our Voice of the Voter segment during The Georgia Vote.
