Israel-Hamas Conflict: 16 Killed in Retaliatory Strike in Rafah | Latest Updates

The conflict between Israel and Hamas escalated on Sunday, with medics and first responders in Gaza reporting that 16 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the southern city of Rafah. This retaliation came after Hamas rockets killed three Israeli soldiers earlier in the day.

According to reports, seven members from one family and nine from another were among those killed in the airstrikes. Medical sources confirmed that there were two separate strikes at different locations in the city.

In response to the Hamas rocket attacks, Israeli forces intensified their airstrikes in Gaza, leading to further casualties. Additionally, an Israeli airstrike in south Lebanon resulted in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to several others.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected international pressure to halt the conflict during Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Day, stating, “If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone.”

The United Nations accused Israel of obstructing humanitarian access in Gaza, warning of a severe famine in the region. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation condemned the violence in Gaza and called for sanctions on Israel to end the conflict.

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees was denied entry to Gaza for the second time since the conflict began, further complicating humanitarian efforts in the region.

As tensions continue to rise, it is crucial for both sides to prioritize the safety and well-being of civilians caught in the crossfire. The international community must work towards a peaceful resolution to prevent further loss of life and suffering in the region.
