Chinese Diplomat Urges Inclusion of Russia in Ukraine Peace Talks

Beijing Supports Peace Conference on Ukraine War with Equal Participation: Chinese Ambassador

Beijing Supports Peace Conference on Ukraine War, Calls for Equal Participation of All Parties

In a recent interview with Russia’s RIA state news agency, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui expressed Beijing’s support for a peace conference on the Ukraine war that would involve equal participation of all parties. The ambassador emphasized the importance of fair discussions and exploring all options for peace.

Switzerland is set to host talks during a two-day high-level conference on June 15-16 with the goal of achieving peace in Ukraine. However, Moscow has not been invited to the conference, leading to skepticism from Russian officials. Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a visit to France, appeared hesitant about the Swiss conference.

Despite previous attempts to propose a peace plan, Beijing’s efforts were met with mixed reactions from Russia and Ukraine. The United States criticized China for not condemning Russia’s invasion and accused them of reflecting a “false narrative.”

The Chinese ambassador reiterated Beijing’s commitment to playing a role in resolving the crisis and bringing “China’s wisdom” to the table. He emphasized the importance of preventing further escalation of the conflict and urged all parties to work together to restore peace as quickly as possible.

Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022, the war has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties and millions of people being displaced. With no end in sight to the conflict, international efforts to find a peaceful resolution remain crucial.

As the situation continues to unfold, the world watches closely for any developments that could bring an end to the devastating war in Ukraine.
