High School Sports Roundup: Riverhead and Shoreham-Wading River Teams Shine in Baseball, Softball, and Lacrosse

Riverhead centerfielder Megan McKay may have made two sensational catches in a recent playoff loss, but the action doesn’t stop there for high school sports in the Riverhead and Shoreham-Wading River school districts. Here’s a weekly roundup of the latest in baseball, softball, and lacrosse:

In softball, Riverhead continues to dominate with an unbeaten record of 8-0 in League I. Their recent victory over Half Hollow Hills West showcased their offensive power, with Kaysee Mojo and Jordyn Kwasna hitting home runs. Freshman Sophia Viola is also making a name for herself with a .500 batting average. On the pitching side, Mya Marelli has been a force to be reckoned with, boasting an ERA of 1.292. Upcoming games include matchups against Patchogue-Medford, Brentwood, and Whitman.

Shoreham-Wading River’s softball team has had a mixed season so far, with a 5-5 record. Freshman Mia Dettleff and senior Elizabeth Sabino have been standouts at the plate, hitting .522 and .421 respectively. Their upcoming games include battles against Bayport-Blue Point, Glenn, and Mt. Sinai.

In baseball, Riverhead is starting to turn things around with a 2-7 record.
