Fremont, California – The public high schools in Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) have once again proven their excellence, with one school ranking 11th in the state of California according to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.

In the 2024 Best High Schools list, California ranked 7th among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Out of the 1,652 schools ranked in California, 121 schools landed in the top 5 percent nationally, with 579 schools in the top 25 percent.

Among the Fremont high schools, Mission San Jose High School leads the pack, coming in at number 11 in California and 93rd in the nation. With a graduation rate of 95 percent and 85.7 percent of students considered college-ready, Mission San Jose High School boasts an impressive Overall Score of 99.47/100.

Following closely behind is American High School, ranked at number 39 in California and 314th in the nation. With a graduation rate of 97 percent, American High School outperforms Mission San Jose in this aspect, although fewer students are considered college-ready at 65.4 percent. The school’s Overall Score is 98.22/100.

Irvington High School takes the third spot among FUSD high schools, ranking at number 44 in California and 337th in the nation. With a graduation rate of 95 percent and 66.7 percent of students considered college-ready, Irvington High School maintains an Overall Score of 98.09/100.

Washington High School follows as the fourth highest-ranked high school in FUSD, coming in at number 202 in California and 1,462 in the nation. With a graduation rate of 94 percent and 40.6 percent of students considered college-ready, Washington High School achieves an Overall Score of 91.72/100.

Lastly, John F. Kennedy High School ranks at 1,064 in California and 4,222 in the nation. With a graduation rate of 93 percent and 26.2 percent of students considered college-ready, JFK High School earns an Overall Score of 76.09/100.

The top high schools in California have students who excel in math, reading, and science assessments, as well as demonstrate strong performance among under-served students. Graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also key factors in the rankings.
