Diane Kruger and Fatih Akin Join Forces Again for ‘Amrum’ in Latest Entertainment News

Diane Kruger Collaborates with Director Fatih Akin on New German Period Drama “Amrum”

Diane Kruger and director Fatih Akin are teaming up once again for a new German period drama titled “Amrum.” The film, which started filming in Hamburg today, tells the story of a family living in a small village on Amrum Island in rural northern Germany during the final days of World War II.

The movie is inspired by the childhood memories of Hark Bohm, co-screenwriter of “In the Fade,” and a German author and director. Initially, Bohm intended to direct the film himself but later passed the helm to Akin, who also co-wrote the screenplay for “Amrum.”

The film stars Diane Kruger as Tessa Bendixen, a farmer’s wife, alongside Laura Tonke, Matthias Schweighofer, and other talented actors. Akin expressed his excitement about the project, calling it an “extraordinary mission” and highlighting the journey of young Nanning as he uncovers dark family secrets during the last week of WWII.

With Warner Bros. Germany and Rialto Film on board as producers, “Amrum” is set to be released in German cinemas in September next year. International sales rights have been acquired by Beta Cinema, who will present the film at the Cannes Film Market next month.

Diane Kruger, who previously won the Best Actress award at Cannes for her role in Akin’s “In the Fade,” is set to star in the film. The duo has also been discussing potential new projects, including a TV mini-series about the life of Marlene Dietrich.

Akin, known for his award-winning films like “Head-On” and “The Edge of Heaven,” is excited to bring this new project to life. Meanwhile, Kruger has another movie screening at Cannes this year, further solidifying her status as a talented and versatile actress.

“Amrum” promises to be a captivating and emotional drama that will showcase the talents of its cast and crew. Fans of Kruger and Akin can look forward to another powerful collaboration that is sure to leave a lasting impact on audiences.
