Senior Tory Ruth Davidson expresses disbelief over allegations against MP accused of misusing campaign funds

Senior Tory Ruth Davidson has made a bold statement regarding the future of MP Mark Menzies, who is facing allegations of misusing campaign funds. In an episode of Sky’s Electoral Dysfunction podcast, Davidson expressed her disbelief at the accusations against Menzies, calling them “utterly jaw dropping.”

“It is so out with the bounds of what being a responsible, elected member is and how you treat your constituency association. It is staggering, like utterly staggering,” Davidson said. She went on to say that she would be surprised if Menzies is able to clear his name in time to stand in a general election, and she believes he may not survive the week without resigning.

Menzies is accused of using funds from donors to cover medical expenses and making a late-night call to a party volunteer claiming he had been locked up by “bad people” demanding money for his release. The allegations have led to Menzies being suspended by the parliamentary party pending an investigation.

Despite denying the allegations, the Conservative Party is taking them seriously and conducting a thorough investigation. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps emphasized the importance of fairness and proper justice in handling the situation, as Menzies continues to deny the claims against him.

To hear more from Ruth Davidson’s conversation with Sky’s political editor Beth Rigby and Labour MP Jess Phillips, listeners can tune into the full episode of Electoral Dysfunction on Friday. The ongoing investigation and developments in this case will be closely monitored as the situation unfolds.
