Ukraine Investigates Civilian Injuries and Battles Rage in Kharkiv Region
Ukrainian prosecutors are currently investigating attacks on civilians in the northeastern region of Kharkiv, as battles continue to rage in the area. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported that Ukrainian forces have been successful in fighting off a fresh Russian assault in the region.
Zelenskiy expressed confidence in the Ukrainian forces, particularly in the Kharkiv region, where they have been making significant progress. However, Russia’s defense ministry claimed that its forces captured the village of Starytsia in the Kharkiv region on Saturday, following a new push in the area.
In another key target area, the eastern Donetsk region around Chasiv Yar, Ukrainian forces managed to repel a Russian assault, destroying over 20 units of the occupier’s armored vehicles, according to Zelenskiy.
Reports from the battlefield are difficult to verify independently, but Ukrainian prosecutors have confirmed civilian casualties in various locations. An air strike on a residential area in Kharkiv left five people wounded, including a 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy. In Vovchansk, near the Russian border, a 60-year-old woman was killed and three others injured due to Russian shelling. Additionally, a man in Ukrainske and a man in Stanislav were also injured in separate incidents.
Despite Moscow’s denial of deliberately targeting civilians, the ongoing conflict has resulted in thousands of casualties since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The situation in Kharkiv remains tense as both sides continue to engage in fierce battles. The international community is closely monitoring the developments in the region as the conflict escalates.
