Melissa High School Senior Breaks Boys Record; Lovejoy Duo Dominates Girls 3200 Meter Race

Record-breaking performance by Logan Tauch at Class 5A meet in Arlington

Logan Tauch, a senior at Melissa High School and a UNT signee, made headlines at the Class 5A meet in Arlington by setting a new meet record in the boys 3200 run with a blazing time of 9:05.80. Tauch’s impressive performance surpassed the previous record of 9:12.22 set by Carter Blunt of Frisco Independence in 2015.

In a thrilling race, Tauch was closely followed by runner-up Caden Gary of Lovejoy for the first half of the event. However, Tauch gradually increased his lead over the final four laps, securing his place in the record books.

The excitement of the meet was further heightened by standout performances from other athletes. Frisco Heritage sophomore CJ Williams shined in the field events, scoring 18 points by winning the shot put and placing second in the discus. Additionally, senior Jaxon Miller and junior Ethan Dixon of Frisco Heritage also delivered impressive results in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.

The 6A Region I and 5A Region II meets, originally scheduled to conclude on Saturday at UTA, were postponed due to heavy rain and lightning. The events are set to resume on Monday at 11 a.m.

The meet also showcased the talent of young athletes, with Forney freshman Layla Paschall winning the pole vault and Red Oak freshman Briana Davis placing second in the shot put. Close competitions in events like the girls long jump and high jump added to the excitement of the day.

Overall, the Class 5A meet in Arlington was a display of incredible athleticism and fierce competition, setting the stage for an exciting continuation of the track and field season.
