Flivvers Fall to Marquette in Cold Battle at Commemorative Field

Despite the freezing temperatures and biting wind, the Kingsford varsity soccer team faced off against Marquette on Tuesday at Commemorative Field. The Sentinels managed to secure a 3-1 victory in the challenging conditions.

Flivvers head coach Jenette Gunville commended her team’s effort despite the cold weather, acknowledging the difficulties it presented for both players and their ability to stay warm and motivated. Senior goalie Alaina Kowalski was highlighted for her standout performance in the game.

Marquette took an early lead with goals from Anabel Ollila and Lily Eberhard in the first half, putting them ahead 3-0. However, Kingsford fought back in the second half, with Ingrid Holt scoring a goal to narrow the gap to 3-1.

The Flivvers will have a chance for redemption as they head to the Superior Dome for two games on Friday, including a rematch against Marquette. Despite the loss, the team remains determined and focused on improving their performance in the upcoming matches.
