Bay College Softball Home Opener Recap: Norse Split Series with Mid Michigan College

The Bay College softball team had a rollercoaster weekend as they faced off against Mid Michigan College in their first home games of the 2024 season. The Norse battled it out in a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, with some exciting moments and tough losses.

In the first game on Friday, the Lakers dominated, taking a commanding lead early on and ultimately winning 19-3. Despite a late rally by the Norse in the fifth inning, the Lakers’ offense proved to be too much to handle. Pitcher Izzy Drabant struggled on the mound, giving up 19 runs, with Bay committing five errors in the field.

The second game on Friday saw the Lakers continue their dominance, shutting out the Norse 14-0. Bay struggled to get their offense going, with only Lexie Resseguie and Sierra Jones managing to get hits off Lakers’ pitcher Heidi Nagel, who struck out 15 batters.

Saturday brought a change of fortune for the Norse as they bounced back with an 11-4 victory over the Lakers in the first game. Desiree Bender had a standout performance, hitting a three-run home run and finishing with four RBI. Pitcher Drabant redeemed herself with a solid performance, allowing only one earned run.

Unfortunately, the Norse couldn’t carry the momentum into the second game on Saturday, falling to the Lakers 14-1. Sierra Jones provided the lone highlight for Bay with a home run, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lakers’ offense.

Looking ahead, the Norse will face off against Delta College in their upcoming games this weekend. With some ups and downs in their performance against Mid Michigan College, Bay College will be looking to bounce back and secure some wins in front of their home crowd.
