Elkins Boys Track Team Secures First Win of the Season

TENNERTON — The Elkins boys track team secured their first win of the season on Tuesday night with a strong performance led by Johnathan Dean. Dean’s impressive individual victory in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:06.44, contributed to the team’s success.

Dean also played a key role in the Tiger 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams, both of which finished in second place. Other members of the relay teams included Andres Masten, Demarcus Franklin, Caleb Ray, Ben Tenney, and Trevor George.

In addition to Dean’s standout performance, Ben Tenney won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:34.10, narrowly beating teammate Trevor George. The team’s total of 119 points edged out Buckhannon-Upshur by three points, securing the victory.

“We ran some kids in different events today that they don’t normally run and I was impressed with the outcomes,” said EHS boys coach Shane Richardson. “We are starting to get everything dialed in and we are looking for strong showings at Big 10 and regionals.”

On the girls side, North Marion took home the team crown with 117 points, narrowly edging out Buckhannon-Upshur. Elkins girls also had strong performances, with Julia Biola, Emilia Tenney, and Kat Hinchman all securing second-place finishes in their respective events.

The EHS teams will return to action at the Mountaineer Showcase on Saturday, hosted by Morgantown High School at Mylan Park. Field event action is set to begin at 11 a.m. with running events starting at noon.
