Marjorie Taylor Greene to propose vote on removing Speaker Johnson next week

Conservatives Divided on Efforts to Oust Louisiana Republican Johnson as Speaker

In a bold move that has divided the Republican party, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced her efforts to oust House Speaker Clay Johnson, a fellow Republican from Louisiana. Greene’s motion to vacate resolution has caused a stir among lawmakers, with only two conservatives publicly supporting her so far.

Despite the lack of widespread support, Greene remains determined to push forward with her plan to remove Johnson from his post. However, many rank-and-file GOP lawmakers are hesitant to support her efforts, citing the chaos and uncertainty that followed the removal of Kevin McCarthy as speaker in October.

Rep. Buddy Carter, R-St. Simons Island, has come out against Greene’s motion, calling it the “worst thing you could do right now.” House Democratic leaders have also made it clear that they oppose calling for a vote and will support keeping Johnson as speaker.

Despite facing opposition from both Republicans and Democrats, Greene shows no signs of backing down. She has found an ally in Rep. Thomas Massie, who has become the first lawmaker to cosponsor her resolution on Johnson. The two lawmakers were seen huddling on the House floor and meeting with the House parliamentarian’s office.

As the tension mounts in the House, all eyes are on Greene as she continues to push for a vote on her motion to vacate. The outcome remains uncertain, but one thing is clear – Greene’s determination to remove Johnson from his position is causing a stir in Washington.
