New Arcade Bar Approved for Downtown Lodi Despite Safety Concerns

In a bold move, the Lodi Planning Commission has given the green light for a new arcade bar to open in Downtown Lodi, despite concerns about the area’s history of after-hours disturbances. The proposed entertainment venue, located at 114 North Sacramento St., will feature a variety of classic arcade games and a virtual golf suite, catering to patrons 21 years and older.

The decision to approve the use permit and alcohol license for the establishment was met with a 6-0 vote during the commission’s Wednesday night meeting. The venue, which has yet to be named, will not allow live music or dancing on the premises, in an effort to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for guests.

One of the main concerns surrounding the new arcade bar is its proximity to the El Dorado night club, which has been the source of numerous police calls and incidents in the past. However, the Lodi Police Department has expressed confidence in the new establishment, citing the owner’s commitment to limited hours of operation as a key factor in their support.

City planner Cynthia Marsh explained that the arcade bar will close at 10 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends, in contrast to other nearby businesses that operate until 2 a.m. This decision was made in an effort to reduce the likelihood of disturbances and calls for police service in the area.

During the meeting, applicant Armando Rodriguez’s sister, Alma, assured the commission that the establishment is focused on providing a fun and safe environment for its patrons. She acknowledged the potential consequences of any incidents occurring on the premises, emphasizing their commitment to avoiding any problems.

Despite initial concerns, the commission expressed optimism about the new addition to Downtown Lodi. Commission chair Mitch Slater praised the proposal, calling it a “lovely addition to liveable, loveable Lodi,” and wished the owners the best of luck in their venture.

With the approval of the use permit and alcohol license, the new arcade bar is set to become a unique and exciting destination for entertainment in Downtown Lodi.
