Vigil for Healing and Support for Crime Survivors in San Diego County

Crime Survivors Advocate for Change at Healing Vigil in Chula Vista, California

Crime survivors and victims are coming together to advocate for change and honor their loved ones. In Chula Vista, California, more than a dozen survivors and their families gathered for the 5th Annual Survivors Speak Healing Vigil Day of Action, hosted by Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice.

Karrie Gonzales, who lost her son to fentanyl poisoning, expressed the importance of being with others who have experienced similar losses. The vigil provided a space for healing and remembrance for those affected by crime.

Elizabeth Munoz, who lost her son to murder, highlighted the need for policies focused on prevention, healing, and protection to address issues like gun violence and the opioid epidemic. The group is advocating for reforms to support survivors and give them a voice in shaping public policy.

The organization recently took their advocacy to Sacramento and plans to march in the nation’s capital later this year to call for common-sense public safety policies. Their goal is to educate the public, raise awareness, and break the stigmas and silence surrounding these issues.

As crime survivors continue to push for change, they are determined to be the voice of their lost loved ones and ensure that their stories are heard. The vigil in Chula Vista was a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of those impacted by crime.
