The Randolph County Commission Proclaims National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

ELKINS – The Randolph County Commission took a stand for victims of crime by approving a proclamation for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week during its regular meeting at the James F. Cain Courthouse Annex on Tuesday.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week has been observed since 1981, with this year’s event scheduled for April 21-27. Victims Services Coordinator Mindy Boggs, from the Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, presented information about the importance of this week to Commissioners Cris Siler, David Kesling, and Chris See.

Boggs emphasized the theme for this year’s National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which focuses on providing options, services, and hope for crime survivors. She called on the entire community to come together to support victims and help them seek justice.

The Commission’s approval of the proclamation signifies their commitment to raising awareness about the resources available to crime survivors in Randolph County. Boggs highlighted the lasting impact that surviving a crime can have on victims and stressed the importance of providing support and creating safe environments for them.

Local resources available to victims include the Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Centers Against Violence, Children’s Advocacy Center, Appalachian Community Health Center, Elkins Family Counseling Center, and Youth Health Services. Additionally, victims can seek help by calling the National Victim Center at 1-800-394-2255.

By recognizing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the Randolph County Commission is taking a proactive stance in supporting and advocating for crime survivors in the community. The message is clear – everyone has a role to play in helping victims of crime and ensuring they receive the assistance and justice they deserve.
