Local residents share their thoughts on Albuquerque police and crime

City of Albuquerque Annual Survey Results: Concerns and Findings from Residents

The city of Albuquerque recently released the results of its annual survey, providing insights into the thoughts and concerns of its residents. The survey, conducted by Pinion Research, polled 400 adults living within Albuquerque city limits from February 26th to 28th, 2024.

Overall, the survey found that most Albuquerque residents feel safe and support the work being done by the city in key areas, particularly in public safety efforts. However, residents expressed concerns about the direction of Albuquerque, the cost of living, reckless driving, and panhandling.

One of the key findings of the survey was related to crime and policing. The majority of respondents were critical of the Albuquerque Police Department’s performance, with many disagreeing that the department is effectively addressing violent and property crimes. Additionally, there were mixed opinions on whether the department is ready to transition away from federal oversight and operate independently.

In response to the survey results, the Albuquerque Police Department issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to proactive policing and community engagement. They acknowledged the public’s desire for a strong police presence and technological advancements in law enforcement.

Mayor Tim Keller also commented on the survey findings, highlighting the challenges faced by the community and the city’s efforts to address them through investments in public safety and neighborhood enhancements.
