Tulsa Police Department is hailing the success of its Real Time Information Center in helping to solve crimes in the city. The center, which was activated last summer, has live video feeds from over 40 cameras positioned around Tulsa.

The primary focus of the Real Time Information Center is to reduce the time between a crime occurring and an arrest being made. By providing police with eyes everywhere and instant information, the center has proven to be a valuable tool in fighting crime.

Just this week, Tulsa Police arrested Hailey Adair after receiving an alert from the Real Time Crime Center about a stolen car captured on camera near 15th and Sheridan. Within minutes, officers located the stolen car at a gas station where Adair was filling it with gas. Adair claimed she had recently purchased the car from a drug dealer.

Captain Jacob Johnston, who supervises the center, stated, “It is really common for us now. We are having that happen so frequently that it is becoming just regular business.” The use of license plate readers has also contributed to a 50% decrease in stolen car cases over the last two years.

The Real Time Information Center is not limited to solving car thefts; it has also been instrumental in solving burglaries, robberies, homicides, and even sexual assaults. Last week, police arrested Yander Ramirez for allegedly raping a 15-year-old in a park. By accessing the city park’s cameras, officers were able to obtain video evidence of the crime.

Johnston emphasized that the center is not meant to replace officers but to provide them with tools and resources to work more efficiently. In addition to solving crimes, the center has also played a crucial role in ensuring officer safety by allowing live access to an officer’s body camera during critical incidents.

The Real Time Information Center has undoubtedly proven to be a game-changer for Tulsa Police, enabling them to respond swiftly and effectively to criminal activity in the city.
