Celebrating Earth Day: Macau IC2 Association and Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau Join Forces for Environmental Awareness

The Macau IC2 Association, a local non-profit organisation operated by citizens with intellectual disabilities and autism, joined forces with Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau hotel to celebrate Earth Day in a unique and impactful way. The theme for this year’s event was “Planet vs. Plastic,” highlighting the importance of environmental awareness and sustainability.

Despite the rainy weather, the event kicked off with a green walk and a simulated tree-planting ceremony indoors. The tree planting activity symbolized a global effort to combat climate change through natural means. Additionally, a fashion show featuring repurposed waste turned into chic resources showcased the creativity and innovation of the participants.

The highlight of the Earth Day event was a choir performance by the Macau IC2 Association members, supported by sign-language translations of the lyrics, emphasizing the importance of inclusion and accessibility for all. An environmental talk titled “Planet over Plastic” sparked discussions on reducing plastic usage and prioritizing the health of our planet over pollution.

Macau IC2 Association President António Luis Leong expressed gratitude to all participants and highlighted the organization’s commitment to promoting an environmentally friendly mentality. Volunteer Ada Lo, who coordinated an event organizing course for IC2 members, praised the successful execution of the event by her students, showcasing their dedication and hard work.

Rutger Verschuren, General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, emphasized the hotel’s support for the IC2 movement and the significance of the event’s theme in promoting sustainability. As Area Vice President for the Macau Operations of Artyzen Hospitality Group, Mr. Verschuren reiterated the importance of supporting such initiatives and the rewarding experience it brings.
