Millions more drained from Trump’s political committees due to legal bills
Donald Trump’s Fundraising Pace Increases Despite Legal Troubles
The latest campaign finance records reveal that former President Donald Trump is ramping up his fundraising efforts despite facing criminal charges and a massive civil fraud judgment in New York. Trump’s legal expenses have been a significant burden on his campaign, with 26 percent of spending in March going towards legal bills for him and his associates.
The Save America leadership PAC, a group aligned with Trump, raised $5 million in March but spent $4.6 million on legal fees. Trump’s political committees have already spent $16.7 million on legal bills this year, with another $900,000 owed to various firms. In total, Trump has spent around $86 million on legal fees since the start of his campaign.
Despite the high legal costs, grassroots donors are still supporting Trump’s campaign. FEC data shows that donations spiked on key dates, such as March 22 when Trump faced a significant legal challenge in New York. Trump’s fundraising efforts have been successful, with an average of over $1.2 million raised daily through the online platform WinRed.
On the other side, Democrats are touting a financial advantage as they seek control of the House. Reports filed to the FEC show that the Democratic National Committee has double the cash on hand compared to the Republican National Committee. In key House races, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has significantly more cash than its Republican counterpart.
Overall, both parties are raising money at a fast pace for the upcoming elections. Senate Republicans are facing tough races, with vulnerable Democratic incumbents amassing large war chests. Sen. Jon Tester, Sen. Sherrod Brown, and Sen. Jacky Rosen are all preparing for difficult races in states that Trump won in previous elections.
Despite the financial challenges and legal troubles, both parties are gearing up for a competitive election season with significant fundraising efforts and strategic planning.
