Crestview Rebels Fall to Garfield in High-Scoring Baseball Matchup

COLUMBIANA– The Crestview Rebels faced off against Mahoning Valley Athletic Grey Conference opponent Garrettsville Garfield on Monday, resulting in a 16-5 loss for the Rebels. Despite a strong start, Crestview struggled with errors in the field, finishing the game with five errors.

Head coach Todd Kibby expressed disappointment in the team’s performance, attributing it to a challenging schedule that tested the strength of their bullpen and the mental toughness of the players. Crestview’s record now stands at 9-2 overall and 8-1 in the MVAC Grey Tier, while Garfield improved to 7-4 and 7-1 in the MVAC Grey Tier. The two teams, along with LaBrae, are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the MVAC Grey Tier.

Despite the loss, Kibby highlighted the positive experience of playing against former rival Columbiana last week, emphasizing the mutual respect between the players and fans on both sides. Looking ahead, Crestview hopes to schedule more games against Columbiana in the future.

Garfield capitalized on Crestview’s errors, scoring a total of 16 runs on 12 hits. The G-Men’s bottom of the order proved to be particularly strong, with Garet Warnick stepping up with three hits and three RBIs. Pitcher Aiden Hill also delivered a standout performance, earning the win with 14 strikeouts and zero earned runs.

Crestview’s offense was led by Brayden Devine, Max Hawkins, and Cayden Booth, each contributing one hit and one run. Despite the loss, Kibby emphasized the importance of moving on quickly and maintaining a short-term memory in baseball.

The Rebels will have a chance for redemption as they face Garfield again today. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting matchup.
