Local Students Earn Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships

Two local students, Ella Taylor of Tyro Middle School and Jackson Ward of North Iredell Middle School, have been awarded Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships from EnergyUnited to attend summer basketball camps at two prestigious college campuses.

Ella will be attending the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at N.C. State University, while Jackson will be attending the Carolina Basketball School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Both students have received full scholarships from EnergyUnited for these camps.

Marilyn Lineberger, corporate communications manager for EnergyUnited, expressed her excitement about Ella and Jackson being selected as the 2024 Sports Camp Scholarship winners. She stated, “This program reflects our cooperative’s ongoing investment in students and communities across our service footprint.”

The selection process for the scholarships involved interviews and applications that showcased the students’ academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and written essays.

During the overnight camps, Ella and Jackson will have the opportunity to stay in dorms on campus and learn from collegiate coaches and current and former student-athletes. The camps will focus on developing fundamental skills that will benefit the students both on and off the basketball court.

The N.C. State women’s camp will be led by head coach Wes Moore and the UNC camp will be led by head coach Hubert Davis, both accompanied by their coaching staff and current and former players.

This year, more than 50 students from across the state will attend basketball camps on Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships from electric cooperatives in North Carolina. The scholarship program, now in its 21st year, highlights the electric cooperatives’ dedication to supporting education and community programs for a brighter future.

EnergyUnited Electric Membership Corporation is the largest electric cooperative in North Carolina, serving 140,137 member connections in 19 counties. To learn more about their energy services and community programs, visit energyunited.com.
