Keweenaw Roller Derby Celebrates 10 Years of Derby Action

CALUMET — Keweenaw Roller Derby (KRD) is gearing up to celebrate a decade of derby action this year, and they want you to join in on the fun. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, flat-track roller derby team in the Copper Country, KRD is all about inclusivity and camaraderie.

No matter your shape, size, orientation, or level of athleticism, KRD welcomes individuals over the age of 18 who are willing to work hard and have a good time. From volunteering as a non-skating official to refereeing and skating on the track, there’s a place for everyone in the KRD family.

If you’re looking to witness some thrilling roller derby action, mark your calendars for their upcoming home bouts at the Calumet Colosseum on May 25, June 22, July 13, and August 31. Tickets are only $5 at the door, and kids 10 years old and under get in for free. The doors open at 5 p.m., with the first whistle blowing at 6 p.m. And don’t forget to dress up in your best 1950s attire for their first bout, the 10th Annual Solar System Smackdown.

For those interested in joining the team, KRD will be launching a new skater program in July. An information session is scheduled for June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Colosseum.
