GCMS Baseball Team Makes Historic Run to IHSA State Tournament
GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley baseball team is making history this season, thanks in large part to the leadership of seniors Ty Cribbett and Brayden Elliott. Coach Dustin White tasked the duo and their fellow seniors with mentoring the younger players on the team, and they have exceeded expectations with a 22-7-1 record and a trip to the IHSA state tournament.
Cribbett and Elliott, longtime friends and teammates in multiple sports, have been instrumental in guiding the Falcons to their first-ever state tournament appearance. Their bond extends beyond the field, with the entire team forming a close-knit friend group that enjoys activities like golf together.
On the field, Cribbett and Elliott showcase the Falcons’ fundamentally sound play, with Elliott’s strong pitching performances and Cribbett’s solid batting contributing to the team’s success. Freshman Graydon Leonard has also made a significant impact on the mound, helping the Falcons secure key victories on their journey to the state tournament.
The community support for the Falcons has been overwhelming, with fans filling the stands at their super-sectional game and offering congratulations to the team around town. The Falcons are set to face Altamont in the Class 1A semifinal game on Friday, with the opportunity to advance to the championship game on Saturday.
As the Falcons prepare for their historic state tournament appearance, they are focused on taking in the experience and building on the success they have achieved this season. With a strong support system behind them, the team is eager to make their mark on the state finals and create lasting memories for themselves and their community.
