“The Apprentice” Premiere at Cannes Sparks Legal Threats from Trump Campaign

The premiere of the film “The Apprentice” at the Cannes Film Festival has sparked controversy and legal threats from Donald Trump’s reelection campaign. The film, which portrays Trump’s relationship with his mentor Roy Cohn in the 1980s, has been labeled as “pure fiction” by the campaign.

Starring Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Cohn, the film depicts a Faustian bargain between the two men that guided Trump’s rise as a businessman and politician. The movie includes a scene depicting Trump raping his wife, Ivana Trump, based on her 1990 divorce deposition.

Director Ali Abbasi, known for his politically charged films, addressed the Cannes audience after the premiere, calling for movies to be relevant and political in the current climate of rising fascism. He warned of trouble ahead, citing conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan.

The film’s release date is still pending as it is up for sale at Cannes. Meanwhile, Trump’s hush money trial continues in New York, adding another layer of drama to the controversy surrounding “The Apprentice.”
