Disgraced Former School Superintendent Convicted of Sex Crimes Finally Sent to Prison

After years of legal battles, former Windham Village Schools superintendent Laura Amero has been sent to the Ohio Reformatory for Women at Marysville to serve her 10-year sentence for sex crimes against two students. The case began in 2019 when Windham police discovered Amero’s illegal relationships with two 16-year-old students during her time as principal at Windham High School.

Amero initially denied the allegations but eventually pleaded guilty to charges of sexual battery and sexual imposition. Despite her plea, she fought to remain free on bond, filing an appeal claiming her sentence was too harsh. However, the 11th District Court of Appeals rejected her appeal, citing the lasting trauma she caused the victims.

Now 40 years old, Amero is not giving up the fight. She has filed an appeal with the Ohio Supreme Court in hopes of staying her sentence and continuing her bond and electronic monitoring. However, the court denied her request, and she will not be eligible for parole until March 2034.

Amero expressed remorse for her actions, stating that she never intended to harm the students and hopes for forgiveness from their families. Upon her release as a Tier III sex offender, she will be prohibited from working in any field of education. This marks the latest chapter in a troubling saga that has rocked the Windham community and serves as a cautionary tale about the abuse of power and the consequences of illegal relationships with students.
