Louisiana Education Chief Challenges Biden’s Title IX Rules for Transgender Students

State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley has made headlines by instructing school officials to disregard the Biden administration’s new Title IX rules regarding transgender students. Brumley raised concerns that these rules may conflict with existing state and federal laws, prompting him to advise schools not to make any policy changes at this time. This move comes in response to the U.S. Education Department’s recent updates to Title IX, which now include protections for transgender students under the umbrella of sex discrimination.

In other news, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has found that a significant portion of federal award funds, totaling $1.17 trillion out of $6.97 trillion, were linked to severe and persistent audit findings from 2017 to 2021. This raises concerns about oversight and accountability in federal spending, as the Federal Audit Clearinghouse currently lacks the ability to identify recipients who should have undergone a single audit but did not.

Additionally, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) has approved an Interim Final Rule on the implementation of the FOIA Improvement Act, which will change how certain records and documents are made available for public inspection. The FEC is also hosting an online training event for trade associations and their political action committees to provide guidance on campaign finance laws.
