Wealthy family of UPenn student who is anti-Israel left “homeless” after encampment

Anti-Israel UPenn Student Claiming Homelessness Comes from Wealthy Family

The recent suspension of a University of Pennsylvania student for participating in an anti-Israel encampment has sparked controversy, especially after it was revealed that the student comes from a wealthy Filipino family. Eliana Atienza, 19, claimed she was left “homeless” after being kicked off campus, but her family’s extravagant lifestyle tells a different story.

Atienza’s father, Kim Atienza, is a prominent media personality in the Philippines known for showcasing his lavish lifestyle on social media. Her mother, Felicia Atienza, is a Wharton Business School graduate and has held CEO positions at international schools. The family’s social media posts feature luxury vacations, first-class flights, and encounters with celebrities.

Despite claiming to have no one to turn to for help in the US, Atienza’s social media posts reveal trips to Antarctica, Alaska, and Paris. She was one of six students suspended for participating in the anti-Israel encampment, which led to police intervention to break it up.

Atienza’s involvement in Fossil Free Penn, a group advocating for divestment from fossil fuel companies, and her support for Palestinians in their fight against Israeli occupation have added to the controversy. Despite multiple attempts to reach Atienza for comment, she has remained silent on the matter.

The story of a seemingly destitute student from a wealthy family caught in a political protest at a prestigious university has captured public attention and raised questions about privilege and activism.
