Producer formerly with Al Roker Entertainment alleges company did not meet diversity goals

Al Roker and His Company Accused of Failing to Follow Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Mandate: Lawsuit Filed

Former executive producer Bill Schultz has filed a lawsuit against “Today” show anchor Al Roker and Al Roker Entertainment, alleging that he was wrongfully terminated after calling out the company’s failure to properly follow a diversity initiative. The lawsuit claims that Schultz was targeted for termination in 2023 for speaking out against the company’s failure to include Black writers in his animated series “Weather Hunters” as mandated by a PBS DEI program.

According to the lawsuit, Al Roker Entertainment attempted to undermine the diversity mandate by having Black writers only touch up scripts written by White writers, rather than hiring Black staff writers as required. Schultz spoke out in defense of the DEI policy and was subsequently suspended and fired for what the lawsuit describes as “fabricated” contractual breaches.

Schultz is demanding $10 million in damages plus attorneys’ fees from Al Roker and his company. He stated, “I put nine years of my career into ‘Weather Hunters,’ a project I strongly believe in, with the goal of making a wonderfully crafted show for children to enjoy and learn from.”

Al Roker Entertainment has not responded to requests for comment on the lawsuit. Fox News Digital reached out to the company for a statement but has not received a response. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
