Dennis Quaid’s New Film “The Long Game” Seeks to Inspire and Uplift Audiences
After decades in the film industry, Dennis Quaid has seen Hollywood lose touch with what audiences truly want to see on screen. In an exclusive interview with The Christian Post, the 70-year-old actor expressed his concerns about the negative content emerging from Hollywood and his hopes for his new film, “The Long Game,” to counteract that trend.
Inspired by Humberto G. Garcia’s book “Mustang Miracle,” “The Long Game” tells the true story of five Mexican American high school students who defied the odds in the 1950s by building their own golf course after being banned from playing at an all-white Texas country club. These students, known as the San Felipe Mustangs, went on to become state champions and were eventually inducted into the Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
Quaid, a Texas native, emphasized the importance of the film’s message in reminding audiences of the social climate in the 1950s, where racial segregation was prevalent. He hopes that “The Long Game” will entertain viewers while also inspiring them to feel better about themselves and the country.
Directed by Julio Quintana and released by Mucho Mas Media and Bonniedale Entertainment, Quaid’s production company, “The Long Game” has already received critical acclaim, winning the Narrative Spotlight Audience Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2023. The film, rated PG, premiered nationwide earlier this month.
Quaid’s involvement in inspirational sports dramas like “Blue Miracle” and “The Hill” reflects his commitment to telling stories of faith, perseverance, and the American dream. His upcoming projects, including the gospel album “Fallen: A Gospel Record for Sinners” and the film “Reagan,” continue to bridge the gap between the sacred and the secular.
In a time where audiences are hungry for positive and uplifting content, Quaid believes that Hollywood is experiencing a spiritual awakening. He remains optimistic about the industry’s reception to stories that touch the heart and inspire the soul, signaling a shift towards more meaningful and impactful storytelling.
As “The Long Game” hits theaters nationwide, Quaid’s dedication to sharing stories of resilience, redemption, and the enduring strength of the human spirit shines through, offering audiences a much-needed reminder of the power of hope and perseverance in the face of adversity.
