Former MLB player receives prison sentence for child sex offenses related to his employment in Fort Wayne

Former MLB Player Dustan Mohr Sentenced to Nine Years in Indiana Prison for Sex Crimes Against Minor

Former Major League Baseball player Dustan Mohr was sentenced to nine years in an Indiana prison after pleading guilty to three sex crimes against a 13-year-old girl. The emotional sentencing took place in Allen Superior Court, where Mohr tearfully apologized to the court, the victim – now 15, and her family. Mohr, who was the girl’s softball coach at the time of the crimes, received a 15-year sentence, with three years to be served in prison for each count of child solicitation for sexual intercourse, child seduction, and sexual misconduct with a minor.

The victim’s father, who remains unnamed, shared in court how Mohr had manipulated and targeted his daughter, even going as far as blocking parental controls on her phone. The father was able to locate his daughter just in time to prevent further harm. Deputy Prosecutor Tracy Heltz-Noetzel and Detective Corporal Nicholas Kiefer were instrumental in bringing Mohr to justice, with the guilty plea coming just weeks before a trial was set to begin.

According to court documents, Mohr had been hired to provide softball lessons for the victim at a training center in Fort Wayne. The abuse took place over several months, with the victim disclosing to investigators that Mohr had touched her inappropriately during training sessions and exchanged private digital images with her. Mohr also provided the minor with a separate phone for communication.

Despite his past career as a professional baseball player, Mohr’s actions have now landed him behind bars. The victim’s family, who described Mohr as a “monster,” watched as he was taken into custody. Mohr, who had ties to Fort Wayne through his daughters’ mother, had served as a volunteer coach at a local high school before his arrest. He is also facing another sexual misconduct with a minor charge in DeKalb County.

The sentencing serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals from predators like Mohr and seeking justice for victims of such heinous crimes.
