Reggie Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy to be officially reinstated

Reggie Bush to be Reinstated by Heisman Trust and Receive 2005 Heisman Trophy

The long-awaited moment has finally arrived for former USC football star Reggie Bush – he is getting his 2005 Heisman Trophy back. After years of fighting to reclaim his prestigious award, the Heisman Trust has decided to reinstate Bush and return his trophy to him.

The journey to this point has been a tumultuous one for Bush. In 2010, he was forced to give up his Heisman Trophy after an NCAA investigation revealed that he had received impermissible benefits while playing for USC. The university was hit with major sanctions, including vacating wins and championships, and Bush’s stats from the 2004 season were nullified.

Despite these setbacks, Bush never gave up hope of reclaiming his Heisman Trophy. In 2023, he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame, but his ultimate goal was always to have his trophy returned to him. He even went as far as suing the NCAA for defamation in an effort to force them to reinstate his records.

Now, with the introduction of NIL rights in college sports, the NCAA landscape has changed, and the Heisman Trust has decided to reinstate Bush. He will receive his original trophy back, and a replica will be given to USC. Bush will also be invited to all Heisman events starting in the 2024 season.

In a statement, Bush expressed his excitement about reuniting with his fellow Heisman winners and being a part of the Heisman family once again. It remains to be seen how this reinstatement will impact his standing with the NCAA and the ongoing lawsuit, but for now, Bush can celebrate the long-awaited return of his Heisman Trophy.
