Bloomington Police Arrest Two After Shooting of 56-Year-Old Man
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — A late-night shooting in Bloomington led to the arrest of two individuals on Friday night after a 56-year-old man was left with multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident took place at an apartment in the 100 block of South Curry Pike, where officers responded to a report of a person shot at 10:55 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects fleeing south from the scene as emergency services arrived to provide medical care to the victim.
The victim, a 56-year-old Bloomington man, was rushed to a local hospital for emergency surgery. While hospital staff indicated that the man was expected to survive, his current condition remains unknown.
Shortly after the shooting, at 11:01 p.m., a Bloomington officer spotted two individuals walking near the Highland Village Church and the Kroger parking lot. Upon approaching the pair, they attempted to flee, with a female suspect quickly apprehended and a male suspect pursued on foot to the rear of the Kroger. Despite trying to hide in a nearby wooded area, the male suspect was eventually located and taken into custody without further incident.
The suspects were identified as Annabella Winter Jackson, 19, of Bloomington, and Devance Gayles, 35, of Michigan City. A handgun wrapped in a sweatshirt was discovered in the wooded area where the suspects had initially been seen.
Following interviews at the Bloomington Police Department, Gayles was arrested and charged with attempted murder, burglary, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness, and pointing a firearm. Jackson was arrested for resisting law enforcement and an outstanding warrant for violation of probation.
Both suspects were then transported to the Monroe County Jail. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind the violent incident.
