Survivors of crime come together to share their stories in honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week kickoff
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week 2023: How Would You Help?
The kickoff of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania brought together survivors and advocates to raise awareness about victims’ rights and services. Gigi Kilroe, Michelle Quier, and Eileen Miller shared their powerful stories of overcoming trauma and loss due to various crimes.
Kilroe spoke about the shame she felt after being sexually assaulted, while Quier became a voice for her elderly neighbor who was assaulted in a nursing home. Miller is now advocating for legislation to ban cell phone use while driving after her son was killed by a distracted driver.
The theme of this year’s National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is “How would you help?” It challenges the community to be prepared to support victims of crime by learning about resources and offering assistance. Organizers emphasize the importance of creating safe environments for victims to share their experiences.
The event was a reminder of the lasting impact of crime on individuals and the importance of coming together to support those affected. Download the FOX43 app for more information on National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
