Residents of Magnolia Park demand relocation of Greyhound Station due to increasing crime concerns
Magnolia Park Residents Call for Relocation of Greyhound Bus Station
Residents of Magnolia Park in Houston are calling for the relocation of the Greyhound Bus Station in their neighborhood, citing an increase in crime and safety concerns. After the closure of the bus station in Midtown last year, residents in Magnolia Park say they are now dealing with similar issues that plagued the Midtown area.
Local residents Joseph Dominguez and Marybel Picazo expressed their concerns about the influx of transient individuals and parolees in their neighborhood, leading to an uptick in criminal activity. They have witnessed disturbing incidents, including individuals walking around in their undergarments and a homicide just blocks away from their homes.
District I Houston City Councilmember Joaquin Martinez highlighted that the bus station serves as a drop-off point for individuals released from prison, who then struggle to find their way and often end up on the streets. With three schools located within two miles of the bus station, residents are worried about the impact on children in the area.
An online petition has been launched to gather support for relocating the bus station from the residential neighborhood in Magnolia Park. Residents are urging community members to sign the petition to address their safety concerns and maintain the well-being of their neighborhood.
