Lexus GB Men Clinch Fourth BNP Paribas World Team Cup Title

Lexus GB men clinched their fourth BNP Paribas World Team Cup title since 2015 with a 2-0 victory over Spain in Turkey. Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid were the heroes of the day, winning both singles matches to secure the title.

Reid defeated Daniel Caverzaschi 6-3, 6-4, while Hewett staged a remarkable comeback to beat Martin de la Puente 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. This victory marked their second World Team Cup title in Antalya, with both players also winning both singles matches in the 2015 final against France.

Reid’s victory over Caverzaschi was hard-fought, with the British player crucially converting a break point to take the first set lead and eventually winning the match after a tough battle in the second set. Hewett, on the other hand, had to overcome a slow start against De la Puente but managed to level the contest and secure the win.

The team successfully defended their title, with Ben Bartram also part of the winning team. British No 4 Dahnon Ward, who joined Hewett, Reid, and Bartram, also played a crucial role in securing the victory.

Hewett, reflecting on the win, expressed his delight at securing a fourth World Team Cup trophy for Great Britain. He emphasized the importance of playing for one’s country and highlighted the strong team atmosphere that contributed to their success.

In addition to the men’s team victory, Great Britain’s women’s team secured fifth place, while the quad team and junior team finished in sixth place. The success of the British teams sets a positive tone for the upcoming French Open at Roland Garros, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
