Florida Man Convicted After Admitting to Heinous Crime During Job Interview to Become Police Officer, Facing Life in Prison

A Florida man’s aspirations of becoming a police officer took a dark turn when he admitted to sexually abusing his cousin during a police department job interview. Stephen Bodley, 26, now faces life in prison after being convicted of sexual battery on a child by an Orange County jury.

According to the office of State Attorney Andrew Bain, Bodley first mentioned “playing sexual games” in a sworn officer application with the Apopka Police Department. He then reiterated the crime during an interview, where a certified voice stress analysis examiner asked him to expand on concerning answers he provided in a pre-test questionnaire.

During the examination, Bodley confessed to sexually abusing a child years ago, which led detectives to track down the victim’s mother. The victim, a female, disclosed to the Florida Department of Children and Families that the abuse occurred over several years, starting when Bodley was around 14 years old.

Despite Bodley’s lawyer’s request to exclude his confession from trial, a judge denied the request. Bodley is set to be sentenced on June 24, with the conviction carrying a potential sentence of life in prison.
