Opelika-Auburn News announces the All-Area boys basketball team

2023-2024 Opelika-Auburn News Boys Basketball Superlatives and All-Area Teams

The basketball season has come to a close, and the superlatives have been awarded to the standout players and coaches in the area. Cam Dooley from Valley High School has been named the Large Schools Player of the Year, while VaDerrian Story from LaFayette High School has been named the Small Schools Player of the Year. William Johnson from Lee-Scott has been recognized as the Coach of the Year for his outstanding leadership.

Dooley, a senior, averaged a double-double with 23.4 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game. He has committed to play football at Kentucky and has been a key player for Valley. Other standout players on the Large Schools First Team include Jacoby Hill from Central-Phenix City, Rowen Thornton from Tallassee, Brandon Thomas from Valley, and Bryce Dawson from Central-Phenix City.

In the Small Schools category, VaDerrian Story led LaFayette to the Class 2A Final Four with his impressive scoring average of 19.1 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. Haiden Harper from Lee-Scott, Nakia Bynum from Lanett, Daniel Westbrook from Springwood, DeAundra Vines from LaFayette, and Branaviyun Story from LaFayette round out the Small Schools First Team.

The talent and dedication of these players and coaches have been recognized with these prestigious awards, showcasing the best of high school basketball in the area. Congratulations to all the honorees for their hard work and success on the court.
