BYU Alumni Patrick Fishburn and Zach Blair Take the Lead at Zurich Classic of New Orleans
Former BYU Teammates Fishburn and Blair Take Lead in Zurich Classic
Former BYU teammates Patrick Fishburn and Zach Blair are making waves at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, taking the third-round lead with a stellar 12-under 60 in better-ball play. The duo, who have been playing together since their junior high school days in Utah, are now on the brink of their first PGA Tour victory.
At 23-under 193, Fishburn and Blair hold a one-stroke lead over Luke List and Henrik Norlander, with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry close behind. Despite windy conditions at TPC Louisiana, Fishburn and Blair managed to dominate the course with impressive birdies and an eagle.
“We just got in a really good rhythm early,” Norlander said. “I felt like we were both hitting fairways. Not necessarily hitting it really close, but it felt like early we had two chances on every hole.”
McIlroy and Lowry, who were tied for the lead after the first two rounds, had a slow start but rallied to birdie seven of their last 12 holes. They are now two strokes back and determined to make a comeback in the alternate-shot finale.
Fishburn and Blair’s strong performance put them just one stroke off the tournament record, with Blair crediting Fishburn for leading the way on the course. The duo’s chemistry and teamwork have been key to their success, with Fishburn noting, “It’s pretty easy to hit shots when Zac is always in the fairway, always on the green. We ham-and-egged it really good today.”
As the final round approaches, all eyes will be on Fishburn and Blair as they aim to secure their first PGA Tour victory and make their mark in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Stay tuned for an exciting finish to this thrilling team event.
