Community Members Express Concerns to Mayor Young at 100th-Day Forum hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Chapter
The city of Memphis is facing a wave of tragedy, but community members are not staying silent. The Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated hosted a Mayoral 100th-day forum, giving residents the chance to voice their concerns to Mayor Paul Young.
Topics discussed at the forum included blight, education, mental health, youth investment, and crime. Mayor Young acknowledged the longstanding issue of crime in the city, emphasizing that it will not be an overnight fix. Despite recent incidents such as a triple shooting on Beale Street and officer-involved shootings, the Mayor remains committed to making the community safer.
In his budget proposal, Mayor Young allocated $2.5 million for crime tech and cameras, along with a 75-cent increase in city property taxes. He emphasized the importance of investing in solutions to address crime and create a safer city for all residents.
As the city grapples with ongoing challenges, Mayor Young’s commitment to addressing crime and community safety is evident. The forum provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration between residents and city officials, highlighting the importance of community engagement in creating positive change.
