Negaunee Boys Tennis Team Dominates Kingsford in 7-1 Victory
The Negaunee boys tennis team showcased their dominance on Wednesday as they secured a 7-1 victory over the Kingsford Flivvers at Kingsford High School. The Miners, known for their strong presence in the Upper Peninsula tennis scene, swept the four singles matches and also claimed victories at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 doubles.
Despite the overall outcome, Kingsford’s Isaac Lebouef and Jacob Crockford managed to secure a win for their team at the No. 2 doubles flight, defeating their opponents with a score of 6-2, 6-4. The Flivvers also put up a tough fight at the No. 3 doubles match, narrowly missing out on a win with a close 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 result.
Negaunee’s Mick Kumpula faced off against Kingsford’s Landon Adam in a competitive No. 2 singles match, ultimately emerging victorious with a score of 7-6 (1), 6-4. The Miners continued their strong performance in the other matches, with Gavin Saunders, Tyler Lajimodiere, and Ethan Harris securing wins in the singles flights.
In the doubles matches, Negaunee’s pairs of James Thomson and Brady Johnson, as well as Kolten Stone and Quinn Waters, also emerged victorious against their Kingsford counterparts.
The Flivvers will have a chance to bounce back as they face Iron Mountain at Kingsford High School on Thursday before their upcoming match against Gladstone on May 2. Stay tuned for more updates on their performance in the upcoming matches.
