New Ulm Eagles Soar Past Fairmont Cardinals in Big South Conference Softball Game

The New Ulm Eagles dominated the Fairmont Cardinals in a Big South Conference softball game on Tuesday, securing a 15-1 victory in just five innings. After Fairmont ended New Ulm pitcher Ramsey Hopp’s no-hit bid in the fourth inning, the Eagles responded with a seven-run inning that sealed the win.

Makenzie Lowry of Fairmont reached first safely after a dropped third strike, sparking a brief comeback for the Cardinals. However, New Ulm’s offense exploded in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Maddie Backer, Kenzie Enter, and Ramsey Hopp all delivering key hits to extend their lead.

New Ulm head coach Kristi Andersen Loose praised her team’s performance, highlighting their aggressive approach and ability to capitalize on opportunities. Ramsey Hopp was a standout player for the Eagles, both on the mound and at the plate, finishing the game with 10 strikeouts and going 4 for 4 with two RBIs.

Fairmont, with a young and inexperienced roster, is still adjusting to the season but showed promise in a recent comeback win against Luverne. Despite the loss to New Ulm, assistant coach Tim Terfehr commended his team’s effort and improvement throughout the game.

New Ulm remains undefeated with a 6-0 record and looks ahead to a matchup against Worthington, while Fairmont aims to bounce back in a doubleheader against Blue Earth Area. The Eagles’ strong start to the season has them positioned as a top contender in the conference, showcasing their talent and determination on the field.
