Illinois Schools Shine in 2024 Best High School Rankings

Several Illinois schools have made their mark in the latest ranking of the country’s best high schools for 2024. According to the U.S. News and World Report, more than 24,000 public high schools were reviewed across all 50 states to determine the top schools based on various factors such as college readiness, state assessments, graduation rate, college curriculum breadth, and underserved student performance.

The report revealed that Illinois had five schools from Chicago in the top 100 nationwide. Walter Payton College Preparatory High School secured the No. 5 spot, followed by Northside College Preparatory High School at No. 35, Young Magnet High School at No. 52, Jones College Prep High School at No. 53, and Lane Technical High School at No. 60.

While suburban schools in Illinois didn’t rank as high on the national list, several schools topped the state’s ranking, including Adlai E. Stevenson High School, Vernon Hills High School, New Trier Township High School, and Hinsdale Central High School.

The top spot on the national list went to BASIS Charter Schools in Peoria, Arizona, with Signature School in Evansville, Indiana, coming in at No. 2. In Illinois, Walter Payton College Preparatory High School led the way, followed by other top-performing schools in the state.
