Anne Hathaway Opens Up About Outdated Casting Practices in Hollywood
Oscar-winning actor Anne Hathaway has recently spoken out about a practice she faced early in her film career that she now finds outdated and uncomfortable. Hathaway revealed that during the 2000s, it was common for casting directors to ask actors to engage in “make out” sessions with multiple potential co-stars to test for on-screen chemistry.
In an interview obtained by E! News, the ‘Les Miserables’ actor shared her discomfort with the situation, stating that she thought it sounded gross and felt uneasy about it. Despite feeling pressured to comply and fearing being labelled as “difficult,” Hathaway now advocates for change in the industry.
As a producer on her latest project, ‘The Idea of You,’ based on Robinne Lee’s novel, she ensured that such practices were left behind. Hathaway cast Nicholas Galitzine as the lead opposite her without the need for a kiss test, as she felt he was perfect for the role.
Addressing rumors that the character was inspired by Harry Styles, Hathaway dismissed them and emphasized the originality of the character. ‘The Idea of You’ is set for release on May 2 this year, showcasing a new approach to casting and on-screen chemistry in Hollywood.
