Hiking the Black Hills with Hikerbabes Community: South Dakota Chapter for Earth Day
The Hikerbabes Community: South Dakota Chapter celebrated Earth Day in style by hitting the Iron Creek Trail #15 in Keystone. Led by co-ambassador Dianne Ellwein, a retired Sergeant Major from the U.S. Army, a group of 20 adventurous women embarked on a 5-mile hike through the scenic Black Hills.
The Iron Creek trail, known for its tranquil surroundings and picturesque views of Ponderosa Pine and rocky cliffs, provided the perfect backdrop for the Hikerbabes to connect with nature and each other. Equipped with boots and poles, the group navigated several creek crossings with ease, using wooden planks, bridges, and rocks to make their way through the trail.
The South Dakota Chapter of the Hikerbabes Community has grown to over 2,000 members and is part of an international organization that offers hiking trips to destinations like Hawaii, Iceland, and Switzerland. Ellwein, who will be hiking in all three destinations this year, emphasized the group’s love for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, and canoeing.
With Earth Day as their inspiration, the Hikerbabes proved that there’s no better way to celebrate than by immersing oneself in the beauty of nature. As they continue to explore the great outdoors and build lasting friendships, the Hikerbabes Community: South Dakota Chapter remains a shining example of female empowerment and outdoor adventure.
