Nelly Korda Trails by 1 Shot After 36 Holes at Chevron Championship in Pursuit of 5th Consecutive Win
Nelly Korda one shot behind leaders at Chevron Championship
Nelly Korda, the top-ranked LPGA player, is on the verge of making history with her fifth straight win at the Chevron Championship in The Woodlands, Texas. Despite a rocky start with a double bogey on the first hole, Korda managed to shoot a 3-under 69 in the second round, leaving her just one shot behind leaders Atthaya Thitikul and Jin Hee Im.
If Korda secures the win, she will join the ranks of Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam as the only players to win five consecutive LPGA events. The 25-year-old is seeking her second major title after winning the Women’s PGA Championship in 2021.
Thitikul, a 21-year-old from Thailand, and Im, a rookie on the LPGA Tour, are currently tied for the lead at 136. Meanwhile, former champion Lydia Ko is part of a group four shots back after shooting a 71 in the second round.
Amateur Lottie Woad, who earned a spot in the tournament by winning the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, is also making waves with a strong performance in her first LPGA event.
The tournament also marked the end of So Yeon Ryu’s competitive career, as the two-time major champion announced her retirement before the event. Despite missing the cut, Ryu was greeted with flowers and champagne by friends and fellow players as she bid farewell to the sport.
As the competition heats up in The Woodlands, all eyes are on Korda as she aims to etch her name in the record books with a historic fifth consecutive victory. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling tournament.
